about rethink the implicit

Everything that earlier was merely given becomes “explicit”. Air, water, land, all of those were present before in the background: now they are explicitated because we slowly come to realize that they might disappear —and we with them.*

RETHINK The Implicit is directly inspired by Bruno Latour’s text ”A Plea for Earthly Sciences”, taking its point of departure in how individuals sense and record their surroundings and the changes that take place in them. The title, RETHINK The Implicit, refers to how global crises such as climate change also causes a shift in the way in which we perceive our surroundings as individuals. When the shortage of resources becomes explicit, we become more aware of fundamental natural phenomena such as air, water, land, and light.

Thus, RETHINK The Implicit focuses on how we as human beings perceive and sense the changing world that surrounds us. The six artists featured in the exhibition each contribute an installation in which they focus attention on that which we take for granted. The exhibition is intended to be a physical, bodily journey where visitors have the opportunity to explore the limitations and opportunities of their sensory apparatus.

about den frie centre of contemporary art

The purpose of Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is to create exhibitions that are selected and produced by artists, and thereby differ from other contemporary art exhibitions. The profile of Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is in the field of tension between tradition and innovation. It means that the house is both supposed to be open to the traditional artists’ unions and to display unconventional art experiments.
